Am I making a good choice?

I am a 20 year old, very shy girl, who is still debating on what to go to college for. I have thought about cosmetology, and probably will go for it later on, but right now I would like to go for something with potential for stability. I would love dental hygiene, and it has been a dream of mine for years, but after speaking with a counselor at a nearby college, I'm afraid it would not be the wisest decision. I dropped out of school the last month of my senior year due to some very serious personal problems (I have my GED though), have an ACT score of 19, and have no experience in the dental field, and with it being so competitive, I'm sure I would not get accepted. I thought about LPN or RN, but those are very competitive to, and I just don't think I have the emotional stability for it. So I was thinking about Health Information Technology. Would this be a smart career path, with at least a bit more stability than most in the declining economy?
